Arizona Summer League
Registration is now open for the 2010 Arizona Summer League. Interested players should register early as many positions will close quickly as rosters filled.

ASL Purpose:
-
To provide professional baseball players and top collegiate graduates a summer showcase instructional league to be able to compete for pro jobs.

To assess and select players to join the roster of teams in 2010 Golden Baseball League Championship season and for other professional leagues as well.

Most importantly, to help players improve and get them signed to pro contracts.
General Information:

25-man Rosters: First 100 players to register will play
-
4 Team League playing 16 games plus playoffs and championship
-
3 Day "Spring Training" starting July 6th, 2010
-
4 Teams selected with Opening Night on July 9th, 2010
-
Four week season ends with Championship Game on July 31st, 2010

Players retain their contract rights and may be signed as free agents at anytime during the ASL and report to their professional team. At conclusion of the Arizona Summer League, at least 10 players guaranteed to be signed to Golden Baseball League or other professional league contracts for the remainder of the 2010 season with an option for 2011.

Scouts representing major league organizations, the Golden League, the American Association, the Can-Am League, the Frontier League, the Mexican Summer League, the Liga Norte Sonora, the Colombian Winter League, and the Japan Independent Leagues have all confirmed attendance.

Scouts from the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals, and Philadelphia Phillies have already confirmed attendance with many more expected. The Arizona Winter League typically has 15-20 major league scouts attend and the ASL can expect similar coverage.

Each day, games will be played at Desert Sun Stadium in the Ray Kroc Complex, former home of the San Diego Padres and Yakult Swallows spring training, in Yuma, Arizona. The complex has four fields, including the 7,500 seat Desert Sun Stadium, plus a major league clubhouse with locker rooms for all four teams, and a fully stocked training room.

Coverage in the Yuma Sun, the local newspaper, including feature stories, daily game stories, and standings.

Game/Player statistics will be reported to and listed by Pointstreak.com and will be emailed weekly to all major league Minor League Operations Directors. All major league scouting Directors have been invited to attend.

Many weekend games will have the complete Minor League experience at the ballpark including fans, mascots, mid-inning promotions, player autograph sessions, etc. Players are also active in the community with youth groups, visits to the children's hospital, sponsor appearances, etc.

Monday Night Pro Player Academy sessions that cover pro contracts, finding an agent, contact info for all independent and major league organizations, playing overseas, marketing yourself to player personnel directors, etc.

Player must be 18 years or older at the start of the league (July 5th, 2010)
Fees:

Players must have minor league or collegiate experience.

$3,500 for Season ($1,000 minimum due with registration, balance of $2,500 due on June 1st.). Receive a $600 discount for payment in full with registration prior to June 1st.

Includes all lodging and meals for 27 days.

Uniforms, workout gear, bags, bats, catcher's gear all provided

Players are responsible for their own transportation to and from Yuma, Arizona.

Your registration is a firm commitment to participate in the Arizona Summer League. Cancellations will not result in a refund since your registration removes a roster spot.

Mike Marshall, ASL Manager, Yuma Scorpions Manager in the GBL, 11-year major league career, former National League All-Star, 1988 World Series Champion with the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-year pro managing career, former VP of Baseball Operations for the Northern League.

Ozzie Virgil, ASL Manager, two-time National League All-Star with the Phillies and Braves, member of the 1980 Philadelphia Phillies World Series Champions, independent professional minor league manager, top professional catching instructor.

Rusty Meacham, Pitching Coordinator, seven year major league pitcher primarily with the Kansas City Royals, Pitching coach for the Washington Nationals organization, independent professional minor league coach and instructor, pitching coach for the Yuma Scorpions.

Nick Belmonte, ASL Spring Training Coordinator and roving base running and fielding instructor: Boston Red Sox Independent League Scout, former Salt Lake City Trappers manager, scout and player procurement for Can-Am, Frontier, and American Association teams.

Warren Cromartie, ASL Manager, ten-year major league veteran and a legend in Montreal as he was considered one of the most popular Expos ever, he reached greater heights in the Japan as he played seven years for the Yomiuri Giants where he was an all-star every season and the Japan League MVP winning a Japan World Series as well. Experienced independent league and major league organization manager and instructor.

Benny Castillo, ASL hitting instructor. 14-year minor league career, manager and instructor with the Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers, Manager of the Year in independent baseball and has coached and managed in the Northern League, American Association, and Golden League.

Shannon Hunt, ASL Operations Director and Pitching Coordinator, College baseball All-American, minor league player with the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres, Scout for the San Francisco Giants, Collegiate baseball coach, minor league independent leagues pitching coach.
